Tours are offered from mid May until late October by the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park (CGNHP).

When you want to take a break from exploring Cumberland Gap National Historical Park on your own, consider having an expert guide you on your adventure. One such guided tour is of the historic Hensley Settlement, an Appalachian living history museum on top of Brush Mountain in nearby Bell County, Kentucky. Step into the past with a knowledgeable park ranger as you stroll down historic fence-lined lanes and learn about the fascinating history on this 4.5-5 hour tour.

As part of the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, the Hensley Settlement was officially established in 1903 by Sherman Hensley and his brother-in-law Willy Gibbons and was occupied until 1951. Hensley Settlement contains 12 homestead log cabins, a one-room schoolhouse, a blacksmith shop, and a restored spring house that was used by the settlement as food storage.

The settlement never developed modern infrastructure or technology, so you’ll really feel as if you’ve been transported back in time.

Tours of Hensley Settlement are typically offered from mid-May through late October.
