Cumberland Gap Artists’ Co-op showcases the creations of local artists in Appalachia. The non-profit’s mission is to create a space where local artists can provide access to their work and create a community that believes in the transformative power of art.
This is vitally important to the Appalachian region, which is home to hundreds of artists working in both traditional media and art forms unique to the tristate area of TN, VA, and KY. Without the Co-op, many artists’ work may go undiscovered, and traditional art forms may be lost. The Co-Op features and sells arts and crafts by local artisans in the gallery and online.
In addition, workshops teach the various arts and crafts that are part of each artist’s heritage, such as painting, quilting, tatting, woodworking, and pottery. Modern forms of artwork such as photography and illustration are also offered through workshops, and after-school classes are offered to schoolchildren (complete with art supplies).
