Whether you’re an avid RV camper or you prefer the little more rustic outdoor excursion of tent camping, there’s something for every camping enthusiast in and around the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. Offering scenic landscapes, lush forests, majestic mountains, and abundant fresh air, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for as far as staying in the great outdoors. We invite you to discover the special spot of Wilderness Road Campground at which you can park your rig or pitch your tent and embark on your memorable adventure.

Wilderness Road Campground is approximately 3 miles from the park visitor center off Highway 58 in Virginia, right where Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia meet. This beautiful, wooded campground offers the ideal base camp for exploring the Cumberland Gap area. With 160 sites (for both tents and RVs) in a picturesque setting, campers can access miles of forest and mountain trails directly from the campground.

There’s so much to enjoy in and around Wilderness Road Campground, including options like driving up to the pinnacle for a breathtaking view of the mountains, exploring nearby Civil War earthworks, hiking to the pale cliffs of White Rocks, visiting the mouth of Sand Cave, or even standing in 3 states at the same time. Or you can immerse yourself in the rich history of the area by walking a path once traveled by bison, Native Americans, longhunters, pioneers, and even Danial Boone himself. You can also tour the historic Hensley Settlement and see how pioneers lived.

Campground info: There are 160 wooded sites open to tent and RV campers. Electrical hookups (20-, 30-, or 50-amp) are available at 41 sites. Group sites are also available. The campground is open year-round, but campsites are limited during the winter season (mid-November to mid-March). Sites are easily accessible by way of paved loop roads.

Hot showers and potable water are located at comfort stations on the grounds, and a dump station is located near the campground entrance.

Capacity: Sites have capacity for 8 people, 4 tents, and 2 cars maximum per site.

Camping fees: Fees start at $18 per night for tent sites with no electricity; $24 per night for sites with electricity; $39 per night for group sites.
