After a recent two-year, multimillion-dollar renovation, the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum is again open to the public. Visitors can view one of the largest private collections of Lincoln and Civil War material anywhere in the world.
More than 35,000 artifacts, manuscripts, photos, and rare books fill its seven permanent exhibit galleries, two vaults, and two reading rooms. The museum also features an outdoor Pioneer Village, and an award-winning Lincoln Learning Lab for children. Highlights include Lincoln’s ebony walking stick, the Lincoln family’s tea set, the only photograph of Abraham Lincoln’s father, Thomas Lincoln, and more than 100 documents handwritten or signed by the 16th President of the United States. The museum also details the connection between the President and Lincoln Memorial University, which was created at the request of Lincoln to aid the people of Appalachia.
